CCHA Preservation Workshops
Harper House/Hickory History Center

The Hickory History Center is pleased to announce a monthly workshop series, to be held once a month from February through October. The workshops’ purpose is to provide a fun and educational environment for all, allowing participants to focus on a variety of subjects directed by individuals considered to be authorities in their field.

Photographic restoration will be the subject of discussion at our first workshop held on Saturday, February 27, 2010. Photographs are often the most precious item in any family’s collection, but are often mishandled or undocumented for future generations. Participants will explore the history and dating of photographs , as well as how to identify the type of photographic process used; methods on how to scan and digitally repair or enhance photographic images, and safe ways to store and display photographic images.

February’s workshop will be conducted by Melinda Herzog, Executive Director of the CCHA. Ms. Herzog holds a Master of Arts degree in Museum Science and specializes in textile restoration. Workshop participants are invited to bring one photograph for review by the instructor, and will receive handouts and a list of preservation resources. The workshop is from 10:00am to 3:00pm, with lunch served from noon to 1:00pm. Tickets are $15.00 per person, $12.00 for CCHA members (ticket price includes a boxed lunch). Pre-registration is required, and tickets must be purchased by February 23, 2010. A workshop for March is being planned for Saturday, March 20, 2010. For registration or more information, please contact the Hickory History Center at 828-324-7294.
